So what are you sharing with us today?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI’ve recently finished a Liberty rainbow quilt for my daughter. I bought the ready cut strips from the Knitting and Stitching Show as I’m terrible at buying fabric and never being brave enough to cut it! The pre-cut strips made it much easier to start and I had a finished quilt in a couple of evenings. To add interest to the quilt top I cut little stars and hand-stitched them on. My daughter loves to feel for them in the night if she wakes up.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI know the feeling with regards to cutting fabrics ha ha! So how and when did you learn to sew?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy grandmother taught and encouraged me to sew when I was little. She made me my first sewing basket which I used for years. Now I love to read craft blogs and discover new skills and techniques online.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EWhat inspires and motivates you?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI love making things for my chlldren or upcycling items for our house. Where do you like to craft?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIt is my dream to have a craft room of my own. My husband has an office and a shed so it is a real bone of contention between us! For now I craft from the dining room table and blog from my laptop on the sofa. Well I am Irish and I turned 40 last year, still in denial of course. Married with 2 small people.  We lived in Shrewsbury, Shropshire for 2 years and sometimes we regret moving back, we try to go back every year.  I worked in administration for years and years but I always liked crafty things, it wasn’t until I was at home with some time on my hands and old house to do up that I started getting more involved. I saw this first over on Happyinred.nl blog, she calls it the Diamond Stitch Blanket.  It’s an easy enough pattern to try and it’s nice to sit down at night and do a few rows while watching telly. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EHow and when did you learn to crochet?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI always loved looking at crochet, it seems more interesting that knitting.  When I was pregnant in the UK about a few years ago I couldn’t get out much so I decided to try and teach myself.  So I googled and googled and you tubed until I got it.  Still learning really. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI learned in a very similar way and it is so addictive and therapeutic isn't it? Not really a fan of Facebook but I am in a few groups there, they can be good to get help with. They had a “Make \u0026amp; Take” section to their stand so I went over to have a go. I immediately loved it as it is so easy to do and looks really effective. You can decoupage everything as well – so far I have done glass jars, a photo frame, a book and plastic bottles. Our skills have been passed down from our masters to our apprentices, from generation to generation. Can you tell us more about the founder of Ernest Wright and Sons Ltd?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy great-great Grandfather Walter was a ‘little mester’ in Sheffield in the 1800’s. A little mester was someone who performed out-work for larger companies in the cutlery trade. My great-Grandfather Ernest decided that making fully-finished scissors would be a better way to go, so he officially formed the company as ‘scissor-makers’ at the turn of the (20th) century. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EWhat a fabulous heritage and a great way to continue such skill. Tell us a bit about it.\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThis is one of my favourite jade green ponchos featuring a white and grey chevron detail. Like all my knitted products it is made in my little studio on one of my vintage knitting machines. Each item is made using the finest British spun lambswool.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI\u0026nbsp;don't know what by favourite thing is; how it is made, what it is made with or the gorgeous design! How and when did you learn to create items in this way?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI studied in Winchester School of Art for 3 years from 2007 learning how to use domestic and industrial knitting machines as well as other crafts around knitted textiles. From there I worked at various knitting companies learning new skills as I went along. I mainly work on domestic machines now however I’m still learning everyday. I love constantly building on my skill set. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EWhen did you turn your creative skills into a business?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy final collection at University was made up of cushions, throws, wraps and hot water bottle covers, once I had my graduation show people started to ask if they could buy pieces from my final collection so I started selling off pieces and creating new pieces to sell. I then started to take my collection to craft fairs and shows and eventually setting up a little shop on Etsy. The demand kept growing so I kept building the business step by step until two years ago I was able to stop my other jobs and focus on the business full time. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI can certainly see why there is a demand for your product Gabrielle. So what inspires and motivates you?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy inspiration can come from the most unusual places. It can be fashion magazines or a walk in the country, it can be seeing an outfit on someone or a splash of colour on the side of a building. I love constantly taking photo’s of inspiration to use at a later date when needed. My studio walls are full of random shots I’ve taken or found on Pinterest of patches of colour combinations or pattern choices.
