Can you tell us\u0026nbsp;about it?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThese are ‘Antique‘ Stork Scissors, a traditional pattern of embroidery scissors that we have made for well over a hundred years. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EThey are\u0026nbsp;beautiful (and on my wish list now. I would love to\u0026nbsp;have a pair in my sewing box!). Tell us more about the skills used to make these beautiful tools.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWe have been established in our trade now for over one hundred and fourteen years! Our skills have been passed down from our masters to our apprentices, from generation to generation. We still make things “the proper good old-fashioned way” - and I have no plan to change that any time soon. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI am glad to hear it. It is a\u0026nbsp;testament to the company that you have stood the test of time and the fact that you have kept\u0026nbsp;traditional crafting skills alive is amazing. Long may that continue. Can you tell us more about the founder of Ernest Wright and Sons Ltd?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy great-great Grandfather Walter was a ‘little mester’ in Sheffield in the 1800’s. A little mester was someone who performed out-work for larger companies in the cutlery trade. My great-Grandfather Ernest decided that making fully-finished scissors would be a better way to go, so he officially formed the company as ‘scissor-makers’ at the turn of the (20th) century. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EWhat a fabulous heritage and a great way to continue such skill. What inspires and motivates you?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EQuality, tradition and our customers - and especially that look on their faces when they pick up a pair of our scissors for the first time and go “WOW!!” \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI am sure you get that a lot. Like all my knitted products it is made in my little studio on one of my vintage knitting machines. Each item is made using the finest British spun lambswool.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI\u0026nbsp;don't know what by favourite thing is; how it is made, what it is made with or the gorgeous design! How and when did you learn to create items in this way?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI studied in Winchester School of Art for 3 years from 2007 learning how to use domestic and industrial knitting machines as well as other crafts around knitted textiles. From there I worked at various knitting companies learning new skills as I went along. I mainly work on domestic machines now however I’m still learning everyday. I love constantly building on my skill set. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EWhen did you turn your creative skills into a business?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy final collection at University was made up of cushions, throws, wraps and hot water bottle covers, once I had my graduation show people started to ask if they could buy pieces from my final collection so I started selling off pieces and creating new pieces to sell. I then started to take my collection to craft fairs and shows and eventually setting up a little shop on Etsy. The demand kept growing so I kept building the business step by step until two years ago I was able to stop my other jobs and focus on the business full time. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EI can certainly see why there is a demand for your product Gabrielle. So what inspires and motivates you?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy inspiration can come from the most unusual places. It can be fashion magazines or a walk in the country, it can be seeing an outfit on someone or a splash of colour on the side of a building. I love constantly taking photo’s of inspiration to use at a later date when needed. My studio walls are full of random shots I’ve taken or found on Pinterest of patches of colour combinations or pattern choices. Just as I was thinking what should I team this up with, another customer pulled out the textured yellow fabric, gave it the once over then put it back – I grabbed it, it was just what I needed and just enough. I started with my Moroccan inspired shape then went on to design my own pattern from scratch. The hardest part of making the pouffe is stuffing it. Second to the stitching it’s the most time consuming part of the process. Tell us about a bit about it.\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThis is a Limited Edition Print ‘Leaf Decay‘. Hand drawn in pencil this design was inspired by the process of decay, looking at the way plants changed in texture and detail as they started to decompose. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EAbsolutely fascinating and so beautifully interpreted. How did you learn to draw in such an intricate way?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI have been drawing since before I can remember, it’s always been one of my favorite things do. During university I really had chance to experiment with different media but always seemed to come back to the traditional pencil. Over the past few years my skills have developed as I have become more and more obsessed with the finest of details. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EWhen was it that you decided to turn your creative skills into a business?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOnce I graduated I decided that if I didn’t give it a go working for myself I would always wonder if I could have ever made it work, so I decided to just do it! My mind is always buzzing with new ideas and trying to imagine new ways of crating hand made jewellery that just make a STATEMENT. It's an elegant statement piece that is very daring. It's very lightweight and can be worn to any occasion. This is part of the new collection that features statement earrings in varied jewel tone colours and will be available on the website in July. I make handmade statement jewellery using a wounding technique which I have developed over the years to create unique pieces.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EIt certainly is\u0026nbsp;statement and looks perfect for the\u0026nbsp;summer months. When and how did you learn the wounding\u0026nbsp;technique\u0026nbsp;that you have used?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThe technique I use has been developed over many years and was inspired by the way Zimbabwean women used to wound their hair in black cotton. I'm a fashion designer by trade but last Christmas I wanted to take a break from pattern cutting and designing and I started playing with embroidery thread wrapped around a wooden spoon. The idea just took off from there.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EHow did you decide to turn your creative skills into a business and what\u0026nbsp;inspires or\u0026nbsp;motivates you?\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI've always wanted to run my own business and be my own boss and this has given me that opportunity. I am motivated by being told no. This has always made me question why.
