How to Make a Cork Brooch with London Craft Club

The exhibitors of The Handmade Fair are back with some great tutorials for you Crafty Bs. 

Our last tutorial before the big weekend is Sonia of London Craft Club. London Craft Club was founded in 2014 by Sonia Bownes to help busy Londoners fire up their creativity. Now she and her team of crafty experts put on original, exclusive craft workshops and socials all round London. If you want to get creative, make gorgeous stuff and meet crafty friends over cocktails and cake, London Craft Club is a great place to get started! 

Here is a little taster with a tutorial for making a crisp sharp cork brooch.

You will need:
A cutting mat
A scalpel
A piece of Cork Laminate on PVC
A piece of sticky-back lampshade vinyl
Masking tape
Your badge shape drawn on thin paper
Gold brush and paintbrush
Glue gun
Badge fastening

Peel the backing of the sticky-back lampshade vinyl to reveal the sticky side.

Stick the cork laminate onto the sticky side of the vinyl.

Trim off the excess vinyl, just to stop it sticking to everything as you work!

Use masking tape to tape your vinyl backed cork to your cutting mat.

Tape your paper design on top of your cork

Use a scalpel to cut through all the layers – you really need to press and it helps to have a very sharp blade.

Discard the rest of the cork so you just have your shape.

Use masking tape to mask off the centre of your badge and use gold paint to pain round the edges of the cork.

Pull off the masking tape.

Use a glue gun to attach a badge fastening to the back of your badge.

Wear with pride!
