At the start of the year, I told you that I would start to make time for myself again to get back to crafting and learn new skills. I am not a big fan of new years resolutions but I did need to make a change. I didn't have a time set aside to just indulge in something or learn something new. You may remember that this prompted me to start Crafty Bs online. A group of like minded crafters come together via social media every Tuesday night and share their projects and help each other along the way.
Starting a new hobby, especially learning a new craft can be extremely therapeutic and is a great way to relax and focus the mind on something else away from everyday stresses. There is a huge misconception though that crafting is solely a 'female' hobby. Admittedly, a higher percentage of women craft than men but thats not to say its not a great way for males to switch off too!
Qwerkity have a great range of gifts for men and Hubby B couldn't wait to have a go at building a Star Wars metal model! If that doesn't sell it to the man in your life, what would?!
This kit was a great way to get started with a new hobby. Hubby B has an extremely busy mind and doesn't find it very easy to switch off. This activity however needed him to focus. There was no glue or anything involved. Just little pieces to be clipped from the metal sheets. The instruction sheet showed you how to fold and fit them together to build R2-D2.
I have to admit that I quite enjoyed the peace and quiet as Hubby B spent a couple of evenings focused on this. Although the instructions suggested that some needle nose pliers were helpful for assembly, he did find himself hunting around for my craft tweezers and a pair of old nail clippers to help him along the way.
He loved the result and his little model is now on his desk. He has also suggested that he might like to build the rest of the collection which is music to my ears because I never thought I would get him to craft along with me. Crafty Bs HQ really is taking off ;-)
Here's the result. What do you think? Do you know anyone who would give this a go? Do you know any men who craft?
*This model kit was supplied to me for purposes of this review however all opinions are my own (and Hubby B's of course).
